Accomplishments of the 2018 Council
(UTTKARSH GOEL, SUMAIYA NAZNEEN, VINAYAK KOHLI AND BHUPINDER KAUR)
- Developing and implementing a much-needed Finance Policy to ensure that proper checks and balances are in place to ensure that the GSA operates according to current professional financial standards and principals.
- Significantly improving the management of GSA financial operations to ensure that the GSA follows GAAP (Generally Acceptable Accounting Principles) and provides for greater transparency for all GSA stakeholders.
- Implementing a new accounting system and establishing greater control over financial transactions.
- Preparing and implementing new policies and procedures for the GSA, including developing a new GSA Bi-Election Policy.
- Updating the GSA website.
- Obtaining very attractive “hoodies” for GSA students.
- Conducting a much need SWOT analysis of all GSA operations.
- Organizing and participating in the fall and winter new-student orientations.
- Organizing and participating in a number of student events, including the Meet-and-Greet event, Halloween party, Diwali event, Christmas Party, Indian Cultural Event, and Year-end “Hand-over” party.
- Helping to organize professional development initiatives for graduate programs.
- Participating in various CUE academic and non-academic committees, including the Board of Governors meetings.
- Participating in the Edmonton Student Alliance.
- Helping to Organize Career Services seminars for graduate students.
- Organizing the annual meetings of all GSA members.
- Organizing a successful student referendum that will provide for additional funding for scholarship and bursaries of all CUE graduate students, including international students. GSA Scholarship and Bursary Award for the benefit of CUE graduate students.
Accomplishments of the 2017 Council
( RANBIR SINGH, CEASER JUDE CLEMENTE, SAMIP DHAKAL, VERA NWAKA AND ERIN ARCHER)
- Significantly improved the management of GSA financial operations to ensure that they follow GAAP (Generally Acceptable Accounting Principles) and provide for greater transparency for all GSA stakeholders.
- Drafted and approved new GSA Objects and Bylaws which enabled the GSA to be registered as a society pursuant to Alberta’s Societies Act.
- Registered the newly incorporated GSA with the Government of Canada and obtain a Business and GST numbers for the GSA.
- Prepared and implemented new policies and procedures for the GSA, including the following: GSA Election Policy; GSA Executive Positions Policy; GSA Compensation Policy; GSA Election Procedures; and GSA Campaign Forum Procedures.
- Completely overhauled and updated the GSA website.
- Conducted a much need SWOT analysis of all GSA operations.
- Organized and participated in the fall and winter new-student orientations.
- Organized and participated in a number of student events, including the “Pop and Popcorn event,” Meet and Greet event, Halloween party, Africa Day,Christmas Party, New Year’s Meet and Greet party, and Year-end “Hand-over” party.
- Participated in an initiative to welcome new international students at the Edmonton Airport.
- Helped to organize professional development initiatives for graduate programs.
- Participated in various CUE academic and non-academic committees, including the Board of Governors meetings.
- Participated in the Edmonton Student Alliance.
- Organized a new GSA office in Guild Hall.
- Helped to Organize Career Services seminars for graduate students.
- Organized the annual meetings of all GSA members.
- Implemented a new GSA Scholarship and Bursary Award for the benefit of CUE graduate students.
